Sand Dunes was my first painting completed with a palette knife. It was a university assignment to take a painting from an 1800s artist and change it through inspiration from other artists into your own interpretation. The original is hanging in the Sydney art gallery, and is a delicate painting of sand dunes and pastel tones. I took inspiration from artists like Peter Booth and tried to make the piece thick and heavy. The effect is quite hypnotic.

  • This piece was painted on a stretched canvas, with oils on both the background and the foreground. Using gel medium to create texture it was then varnished with a matte finish.
